Macedonia has one of the most varied musical traditions in Greece: brass and clarinet in the west, the zourna and daouli pair in Naousa and Roumlouki, and the gaida bagpipe around Edessa, Almopia and Serres. Dances range from slow, heavy circle dances, such as the Tranos choros of Vlasti danced only to singing, to the bouncy dances of Florina in complex meters. After 1922 many refugees from Pontus, Thrace and Asia Minor settled here, and their communities keep their own dances alive.
