Cycladic music belongs to the nisiotika (island songs): at feasts the zygia of violin and laouto plays, while in mountain villages and at Carnival the tsampouna bagpipe with its small drum can still be heard. A feast usually opens with the syrtos and ends with the ballos, the courting couple dance that every island dances its own way. Alongside them are dances with strong local colour, such as the vlacha of Naxos, the ageranos of Paros, the nikentre of Amorgos and the karsilamas of Kythnos.
