Character
Who dances it: Everyone
The most widespread dance of the Sitia district: fast and lively, for men and women. It has seven basic steps starting on the right foot: in the travelling "glakito" part the circle moves seven steps forward and seven back, while in the "steto" part it dances on the spot. It starts slowly and speeds up, while couples take turns at the head performing figures ("tsampakia"). It is listed in Greece's National Inventory of Intangible Cultural Heritage.
