Character

Who dances it: Everyone

A fast, cheerful dance from Pyrgi, one of the mastic villages of southern Chios. It is danced in trios, usually two men with a woman in the middle in a V shape, at Carnival and at weddings. It was once played on tsampouna (bagpipe) and drum and the dancers sang along; today it is mostly instrumental, with the violin carrying the melody.
