Who dances it: Everyone

A syrtos from Zakynthos in 2/4, in a style reminiscent of the Aegean syrtos. The name points to the Levant, the East; as early as 1862 Aravantinos mentions the 'Levantinikos or Syrianos' as a common Aegean dance. It has many local variants and names: in Galaro it is called Galariotiko, elsewhere Levantiniko or simply syrtos. It is also recorded on Kefalonia as one of the island's main dances.
