Character
Who dances it: Everyone
The signature dance of Leros, also danced on Kalymnos and other Dodecanese islands. It is slow and heavy, with restrained vigour, and some versions speed up at the end. According to Theodore and Elfleida Petrides, it began as the slow section of the sousta and over time became a dance of its own. The "Lerikos" taught in international folk dance groups abroad is a choreography that differs considerably from the island dance.
