Character

Who dances it: Everyone

The best-known dance of Thessaly, named after the Karagounides, the farming people of the Thessalian plain around Karditsa, Trikala and Farsala. It is danced in an open circle in three figures, each with its own number of steps, to an even rhythm. The same tune is often danced as the "svarniara", with heavy, dragging steps and a strong bounce in the knees.
