Character
Who dances it: Everyone
The ballos of Lefkada differs from the Aegean ballos: it is not a couple dance but is danced in an open circle, men and women alternating, with a man leading. In the first part the dancers hold hands with bent elbows, and in the second they dance unlinked. Towards the end the rhythm turns to 7/8 and the dance becomes a syrtos kalamatianos, which according to Peristeris (1967) is found in no other island's ballos.
